Victoria Weise Tatro

2510964_220w_1Victoria Weise Tatro was enfolded in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Thursday morning, November 14, 2013. Vicki courageously battled multiple cancers for over two years and spent the last month at home with her family and the loving care of her hospice angels and caring neighbors and friends who looked after her and prayed with her every day. Vicki lived her faith and believed in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My Grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Beside being a strong, supportive spouse, Vicki was a long time horse woman and loved breeding her American Morgans. She still rode her last bred filly Figuron Miss Hollywood, her special mare. She shared the love of horses with her daughter Danielle, an accomplished eventer, and her son Alex, the designated stable hand and manure mover. Few things delighted her more than tending to barn chores and loving the horses on their ties in the barn aisle. Brushing, washing, braiding and organizing tack was a favorite therapy and getaway from a busy schedule.

Vicki retired from guiding large corporate accounts through hardware, software and services acquisitions as a Senior Sales Account Executive with Hewlett Packard. She was a multiple year Decathalon Winner through sales success with Disney, GTE, Countrywide, DirecTV and many others over a 28-year career. She loved the team environment and missed all of her co-workers after shifting her focus to the kids, home and her new acres in Sundance Ranch.

As a jump into anything doer, Vicki loved to help family, friends and acquaintenances live better, more meaningful lives. Her constant search for new Bible studies deepened her faith and helped her minister to her husband and children while filling a home with love, laughter and a “let’s do something new” attitude.

Please join Steve, Alex and Danielle in a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at First Baptist Church Georgetown on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. The Worship Center is located at 1333 W University Ave. at DB Wood in Georgetown, TX.

Harris HazelHazel Katherine Harris, 92, of Burnet, Texas, passed away on January 18, 2014. She was born in Austin, Texas on July 15, 1921, to William and Annie Harris.

Hazel attended Austin High School, graduating in 1939. She worked her entire career at General Telephone Electric (GTE); retiring after 39 years of service. She began as a long distance operator in Brownwood, Texas, and eventually worked her way up to supervisor.  GTE transferred her all over Texas and she lived in Brady, Lewisville, Carrollton, Bryan and Garland. Hazel was a supervisor when DFW airport was built and spent many months training telephone operators at the airport. After retirement, she took a job planning, purchasing and preparing the Wednesday night dinners for South Garland Baptist Church. When she returned to the Austin area, Hazel was a member of First Baptist Church Georgetown and later an associate member at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.

Hazel’s interests included cooking, gardening, crafts and needlework. She taught Sunday School to elementary and pre-school classes for most of her life and was very involved with the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She was all about family, and her 23 nieces and nephews were her children. She was known for throwing fantastic family Christmas parties that featured her date pinwheels, lemon and pecan tassies and her mini-hamburgers made with homemade yeast rolls (she invented sliders decades before they became popular).  She was known as “the Cookie Lady” and baked thousands of cookies for the retirement homes in Georgetown and for the youth group at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.

Hazel is survived by her brothers, James T. Harris of Bellville, TX and Robert L. Harris and wife Edena Bray Harris of Liberty Hill, TX, six nephews, 15 nieces and numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, six brothers and two nieces.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Leander. Memorial contributions can be made to Liberty Hill United Methodist Church in Liberty Hill, TX or First Baptist Church Georgetown, TX.
